1-23-2009 This is Nilla's second day to be worked with.  Today I put a saddle on her, lounged her, then ground drove her.  I'm going to continue to drive Nilla for a few days before we advance to the next task.  She is doing really well, never bucked or hopped.  She was as a little nervous at the trot the first time with the saddle because of the flopping.  But looking around quickly is all she did.
1-22-09 I have started training Nilla. 
Nilla is 13 years old and has never been ridden or lunged to my knowledge(I got Nilla 8/2005).  I've been told by several that it's almost impossible to break mares to ride once they are that old and have been broodmares all their life.  Well, with that said Nilla & I will prove them all wrong.

Today Nilla wore a saddle blanket, surcingle, bridle w/snaffle and reins and lunged on a lunge line.  At first Nilla had no idea what I wanted, but she caught on so quickly and was very interested in learning and paying attention.  I've been around several that could careless about what you want and just go back to what they were doing.  You could just see Nilla flowing with pride she was doing something important and was happy she was pleasing me.  I think breaking Nilla to ride is going to be very enjoyable.
